A Taste of Ecuador
Local travel planning company celebrates grand opening with “A Taste of Ecuador” culinary event
On Tuesday, April 5th, the relationship between local and global will grow closer as Louisville native Katie Kubitskey announces the opening of her locally based travel planning company, My World Travel. Hosted by the Guesthouse on Story and catered by three local chefs, “A Taste of Ecuador
” will be a creative collaboration of local authenticity and foreign flavor – two concepts that Kubitskey says inspire her business model. The event will be an open house from 6-9pm for a donation of $3.00 to sample the food and beverages.
“The purpose of this opening event is to bring the local community together to taste, discuss, and celebrate cultural differences,” Kubitskey says. “These are the most important things, in my opinion, to experience when traveling to a new place so I thought I would bring a taste of this experience to Louisville for an evening.”
In contrast to a traditional travel agency, My World Travel starts with each traveler’s preferences, interests, and budget and then will build a customized, culturally engaged itinerary to fit. When beginning to plan your adventure through My World Travel’s electronic “Let’s Plan!” form, you are prompted to choose “cultural enhancements” of interest such as Living Like a Local, Outdoor Adventures, Cultural Arts, Culinary, and Worry Free to help set the pace of your itinerary. In addition to creating an itinerary, My World Travel will work with you to make reservations, organize travel, plan activities or simply provide you the level of travel inspiration you need.
As you explore the Guesthouse, you’ll experience these different components of My World Travel’s planning inspiration. In the foyer, sip on an “Andean Sunrise” cocktail; in the kitchen, sample some llapingachos, vegetable empanadas, and arroz con camarones, provided by Younique Soul Catering; venture upstairs to the living room and learn how to cook your own fried plantains with local chef Collin Oliver. Not hungry? Take an unlimited amount of photo souvenirs in the travel-themed MagBooth. Heading home with an urge to travel? Mission accomplished.
“As a chef, I find it my mission to allow people to taste things they might not have tried before and to help them experience foods in a new and exciting way. I want to help people fall in love with food in any way I can, and a collaboration with My World Travel will be a perfect outlet for this,” says local chef Collin Oliver.
The Guesthouse on Story will have rooms open for viewing (and for sleeping if you have too many “Andean Sunrises”). Contact guesthouseonstory@gmail.com for details.
